Growing Up is, Understanding Duty; Abtak Chhappan!

-

“I have grown up to such an age that now I am not afraid of being afraid” …

Dear Dada, Chota & Younglings (it’s a term from star-wars),

It's Mid-December again & time for yearly gyan.com! Though by now you know, this will be old stuff in a new pack yet that’s what marketing (and ageing too) is all about, right? It’s one more year added in age or subtracted from life, depending on how you look at it & of late I am with lots of efforts have come to terms with earlier part & am thankful to life for this ability, that’s growing up! Let me share the logic about the starting quote which as per my friend’s opinion is wrong Grammar as she is from real Convent School but then I have never been right about many things in life especially about expressing myself, so be it! Why I chose these words (I never refer my words as quote as that’s for celebrities or wise people & I am not both) because every year (that way every day) which gets added in your life teaches you something just the way the years in the school & colleges has taught us, point is what we have learned out of those teachings! As it's only when you start practicing what has been taught to you or say you have studied, it can be called as learning or else it’s just in vain! In Murthi this has a very apt phrase, Palthya Ghadywar Pani i.e. like pouring water on a jug from the reverse side, it will wash away & nothing will get stored! I have gone a step ahead on this front of learning, even if the water gets stored unless you are able to extract this water at the right time, then only its learning or its dead storage or a corrupt hard disc drive. Means data is there but you can’t use it when you want to use it!

If you are wondering where this gyan.com train is going or as usual has got derailed but what this means is, all my writings, shares, posts are in a way extraction of my teachings which every person & every day in my life has taught me & this yearly sharing is like summary of the 365 days in the school of, life! The starting words are summery & this year’s is about being afraid! As we all are afraid of something all the time is a truth which we have buried deep within ourselves. And fear meets us in many ways & forms, the biggest & ugliest fear is of what if I fail & as we grow our fears change its shape & name & with every change its size grows. Dada & Chota, trust me I have seen most grown-ups crumbling under their own deep buried fears which we call stress burden but is actually inability to deal with the fears within of which we are afraid of! And then if you are a man then you are not allowed to be afraid is what our society’s belief (read as social law) is, as a woman can cry, express her stress & ask for sympathy though I know many women who don’t do it) but a man must suffer, he must now have any fear & courage is not having any fear! This is the biggest lie or myth, is my learning of the year & I am happy as finally I can freely be afraid of my fears or let’s say, I am not afraid of being afraid!  I have my own fears about many things just the way you may have about your future. For me, earlier it was M3 (google it) then it was about starting first project then it was about my BP or knee injury which will make me unable to play badminton for ever & then if nothing is there to fear, the minds is afraid of what will happen next i.e. fear of unknown, & the list of fears keeps increasing with every year! But it's ok, as now I treat the fears as my own, just the way you two are (don’t take it other way), means if I have fears & they make me afraid then I have my strengths also to fight with those fears, as how can I ignore my strengths when they too also exist in the same mind where my fears survive, is my learning of the year!

Dada & Chota, in all this journey of confronting fears, many things have helped me but most important is, being open (and being lucky) to get exposed to so many aspects of life as once you leave the college your official learning is done & in the school of life your teachers are people you meet, books you read, places you visit, movies you watch, radio you tune in & yes forest i.e. nature! All of them teach you one common thing, to survive & to live & in one such recent learning I happen to listen to a few words of Field Marshal Mankeshaw, not the movie but from the interview of a rtd army man! He said Field Marshal always use to say, Fauji ke liye sabse badhkar hoti hai uski Duty, koibhi kaam karnese pahale khduko puchho ki ye chij mery duty ke khilaf to nahi, aur fir wo baat karna”! What outstanding words & its meaning is, "for a military man, duty for the country is above everything & whatever you are going to do ask yourself first that, is that thing in line with your duty & then only do it"! I am not one percent military types (few fronts such as discipline, yes) but I too have believed this principle always, duty first! For a military man or woman, it's the country in line of duty, which is true for us also but we have other duties too! As a businessman I have duty towards my product & it includes clients to team Sanjeevani & I have duty towards my family & friends too as well I have duty towards every other person or living object who are weak & needs some support! This may sound too dramatic or philanthropic, but dada & chota, have you ever thought what makes the army men come over their fear of dying or suffering pain & yet keep moving ahead in battle, its their extreme belief in their duty, that belief makes them overcome their fears! This is my take away from birthday No. 56, (Abtak chhapan) as I have full belief in my duty or say duties & that makes me able to deal with my fears without being afraid of being afraid! As fear or being afraid is just an emotion or state of mind the way I am happy, sad, angry, I can be afraid also, whether I remain in that state all the time & ignore my duty, is up to me & here my duty stands above everything, even above my fears!

I share all such stuff with you just because I think it’s my duty as my father never explained life or its aspect to me in such way but that doesn’t mean he didn’t love me or not wanted me to learn all these things, may be his ways were different but that doesn’t make me not to try my way to teach you or say share my things with you! And then in your case my job is always three-way, dad, mom & a boss, maybe I should add a friend also in it now, which has taken a backseat for a long, it’s never too late to do right things! Well, this year’s gyan.com is bit lengthy but so were my fears & will add just one thing, you need not have to go to NDA or some military academy to respect duty, just know what is right in life & stand by that right thing, that’s your duty! To conclude, this year’s ten commandments & then you can stop reading, finally! These may not assure you success but surely will increase your chance for being successful & definitely will make you at peace only if you practice them, of course...!

1.Sleep early & wake-up early, that’s your duty towards your rest.

2.Do use social media, but need base only, that's your duty towards your personal brand.

3.Exercise daily, even walking will do, that’s your duty towards your body.

4.Read something every day, that’s your duty towards your brain.

5.Try to learn something new, always, that’s your duty towards the kid within.

6.Spend some time for your hobby, that’s your duty towards the true person in you.

7.Be observant always, every detail matters, that’s your duty towards the student in you.

8.Try to help others, however bad they behave with you, that’s your duty towards the society.

9.Respect every elder around you, that’s your duty towards knowledge.

10.Never be ashamed & late in saying sorry when you are wrong, that’s your duty towards rightness…

In a nutshell, growing-up is understanding your duty towards life! Thanks to you both as well all the younger gang i.e. Nikhil, ketki, Shurtika, Rohit M, Tanisha, Siya & others, who have helped me to be  on the right track!...

Baba.
