Olympic Lesson of 100 gms!

-

Friends, by now the entire country knows about the story of 100 gm & those who don't know they will come to know after reading this sharing. This is not to criticize Vinesh Phogat or her support staff or our govt or anybody but this sharing is for myself & my team about what we can learn from such incidents! Actually, I was going to restrict this for my team but then thought, why can't I share it with all, those who want to learn can learn or can improve more on my learnings or just will ignore thinking one more post, that’s ok for me! After all whatever we read we can call that as a lesson only if we are going to learn something from those words or else it's just another story, so be it! Here is something I penned down for my team after understanding what happened with our wrestler Vinesh Phogat in Olympic 24 at Paris….

“Any success or a failure is never an accident, it's the outcome of your attitude towards the job you are doing”...

Dear team Sanjeevani,

If you don't know yet, then our Indian wrestler Vinesh Phogat, who has made history by becoming first woman wrestler to enter in the finals of Olympic 24 and could have won gold medal also as silver is any way ensured has been disqualified from the tournament just because her weight was more than the weight group she is playing in! And do you know how much more her weight was, it's just 100 gm i.e. 0.10 kg , on gold scale it's 10 tola!! In simple language, it's the weight of a necklace or bangles a lady usually wears in our country! And this means she is not only deprived from playing in the finals but has been disqualified from the tournament & it's really sad for her as a player as well frankly humiliating for our country as the reason for the disqualification shows our immature attitude (read as casual) at the biggest of sports events!! I agree, nobody does such things deliberately yet look at the price Phogat & our country has paid for those extra 100 gms!!

Now you will understand why I insist or get upset over small things in the work like putting date or page numbers on the document you bring for my sign or scowl you over not filling all the boxes on any check list of bills or possession or gets angry over forgetting to reply an email in time or not posting work updates on group as it's the small things which matters big & not just you but entire company has to pay the price!! You may be again thinking your boss is illogical, weird for linking Phogat medal loss with our work but it’s not what you think or feel it makes difference but it’s how perfect you train yourself & practice it in real life, is what matters & will matter for you as an individual & for your company as your team!!

This is also what I looked while your increments (and any boss like me will do wherever you will be working) as it's your attitude towards your work which defines what you are & unless you don't take every small thing seriously & starts paying attention to the same & try for perfection, neither you nor your team will succeed, know this fact of life!!  Interestingly one more such incident happened in this Olympics in the men's 100 m running race which is supposed to be the epitome of all sports! In the finals the difference between gold medallist & silver medallist is 1/1000 part of a second (time) & though foot of the silver medallist runner crossed finish line first yet by the race rules it's upper part of your body should cross the finish line first & that’s why the gold medal was given to the runner whose chest touched finish line first, I think this is the eye opener for all those who are crying over the rules!! There is as usual hues & cries in all segments of the society (even the politicians too) over the tragic end of Phogat’s journey in Olympic & as usual blame game is & will be there but none of that will revert the damage, is a fact! Just on a lighter note, gold is most precious commodity & present market price of gold is Rs 72,00 per ten gram (one tola), means for hundred grams it will be Rs 7,20,000/- & had Vinesh even lost the finals & won the silver medal yet she would have got nearly   Rs. 3 crore prize money from Haryana govt & considering all the cash & in-kind probable prizes to her & support staff, they collectively would have got nearly Rs 15 crores (my guess) in all forms. That means 100 gm weight of Vinesh is worth of Rs 15 crores which makes Rs 1.5 crore per 10 gms (one tola), making her most precious ever on the weight scale, i.e. nearly two hundred times costlier than the gold! And then the glory & honor the medal would have brought along, which is priceless!

So, dear team, do mind, the world lives only by its rules & your intentions are not exception for those rules, but what you act, that decides your fate; this lesson Phogat has learnt very hard way, hope you don't have to learn by paying such heavy fees!!

Bravo Vinesh Phogat, all the best for your future...
