Kasba Peth Election & Lesson I Have Learnt!

-

"Victory has many associates while a defeat is always a loner"… John F Kennedy

"When you are a Champion then your defeat is talked about more than your victories"... Vince Lombard

I am sure with the title & these quotes, you just have guessed the direction of the writeup & most of you by now have read so much about the topic that you will prefer to stop here & exit from the window of my sharing. Well, your first guess is right, the sharing about Kasaba peth midterm election (read as, its outcome)  but second guess if it’s about analysis to blame either how BJP was wrong or Opposition parties were right & how BJP has been taught a lesson ete etc then you are wrong as the sharing is about what I myself as an individual  has learnt a lesson & the sharing is mainly for my small team (which includes my son & few young ones of family), so its ok if you stop reading thinking it’s one more political analysis! And if you are interested then please do go ahead as I myself am not some political expert to analyze a political election’s outcome & then do you still feel such win or loss makes our political leaders any effect, or else we they wouldn’t have been doing same things to win (or to lose) their respective elections for decades, right? So, better we stick to what we learn from such defeat or win as on face the contest may be between two political parties but as an engineer (I do take pride in it, at least still) this can be wonderful analogy, if (do mind if) applicable to every front of life, mainly if you are in a business where every-day make you to confront a new fight!

Ohk, so, now you understand my motif behind taking this Kasba Peth midterm election as sharing subject because on face it may seem as just a political fight but the way this election got shaped i.e. from cake walk for one side (you know which side) to that side losing the election, everything is worth studying, I mean the angles to the entire process. And this is what caught my attention as in our day to day works also many a times we start taking things to casually & when we realize it’s too late to recover (here many of us may be knowing  but can’t stop to refer Rabbit & Tortoise race story) the way fast rabbit realized in the rabbit-tortoise race story & then we start giving reasons for our loss (read as failure) for which there are no takers, is what Mr. Kennedy has said in his quote!  The story is Kasba Peth Constituency is supposedly BJP’s strongest fort & the party rules from “Galli to Dilli” i.e., PMC (local body), State Govt & Central Govt is with BJP & then this seat is with BJP for last 28 years, all this stuff you know so will not take much time! But just the way BJP took it granted before the match started that the match is just a formality & they have already considered they have won, this is something I see happening to most of us as we think we rule everything & take the outcome granted! This is the biggest lesson I learnt & want to tell my sons as well my team that nothing you can take granted, even if you hold all the cards & I am not blaming luck or destiny but I am blaming the attitude of taking things (and people) granted. One must give his hundred percent however easy the contest may seem but one small mistake (read as negligence or arrogance) can doom your all efforts, which is what we saw in this election! This lesson is important for every aspect of work, may it be getting the sanction of some plan or site safety measures; we can take things granted!

Then comes the aspect of making the right choice of candidate, here again I am not referring to political decisions as that’s something totally right of the respective party but you can choose anything doesn’t mean you should choose anything in life, is what I have learned from this election! Choosing wisely as that reduces many of the flaws which surfaces later is something we must take in consideration even while choosing a plot for development, so perfect analogy is here! And it’s obvious that when we take things granted then we lose the capacity (read as mind) to choose rightly as we start thinking we can’t go wrong whatever we choose & outcome hits us by making us pay for choosing wrong! And then in case on some front of life we choose wrongly then we must have courage to accept our mistake of choosing wrongly as then it’s easier to get back on the track than wasting time in justifying our wrong choice, is what also a big lesson I think this election has taught us! May it be giving the right task to the right person in our work team to selecting the right agency for the job, everywhere the choice matters, mind it my team! As when you put effort in choosing the right person then first you have to understand the job to be accomplished as then only you know what kind of person we will be required to complete the task at hand, so you study in depth & with open mind, accepting the challenges in the job, right?

And once you have taken things in a respectful way & chose rightly then comes the way you access to the job at hand with in depth study which we call a strategy & plan of execution than just doing firefighting in the wild! A wise man (or a wise party) is the one which thinks right in the beginning of every possible way he may meet the failure & prepare himself & if even after that a failure occurs then at least you are happy that you have given your best the way opposition party must be feeling in PCMC midterm election seat after losing that seat to BJP! The problem with wrong choice is one has to have multiple strategies at hand & one has to be real quick to adopt the trial & error way till we hit the right strategy & many a times time is not on our side, which also one must take in to account, which obviously the losing side wasn’t prepared for!

As to have a proper fighting strategy there has to be one leader in place right before the battle begins which wasn’t this time for this election, is also I observed, because you may have best of the Generals in the army but “One War One General”, is the only way a war can be won & not by too many best Generals commanding one army at the same time as it only causes confusion & however big & strong the army may be yet it fails to deliver the victory. This is applicable for every department of our company or site as if we want to sell some inventory then there has to be one single person that takes that responsibility & executes the strategy with fully focused efforts. Yes, you can always take help or assistance from the other more capable, experienced mind but the command must be in one single hand, which wasn’t followed in this election by the BJP. Interestingly, the same lacuna was with the opposition party also yet their candidate himself was the focus of attention making him automatically the general of the army from the opposition side & he got benefit of the situation!

Well, on the next election result day there was one more news, about BJP winning in three states of the eastern part of our country which was not its strongest of the base ever. One cannot fail to wonder how a national level party which wins three of the states where it was not having a strong foothold can get defeated in its best of the fort, right? The answer was in the comment of BJP’s Chief, Mr. JP Nadda, which said three eastern state’s election win is not a fluke but it’s outcome of their (read as Mr. Modi & Shah’s) efforts for the last decade for building base in the form of public relations as well infrastructure development in these states! Well, well, Nadda sir, this vision seems to be forgotten by your own people in your strongest of the fort or else how the exact points which made you win three states becomes your rival’s best weapon to get backfired on your party, right? You may not like it but that’s what has happened & this is we all must learn at our business fronts, never neglect even our strongest of the fort & don’t keep it unguarded. Basics of any victory are the same & so are for the failures, if you want to make your brand dear & respected & trusted by your clients then it will not happen in a single night, it needs long term effort & then this process has no end, do not forget this fact, ever! As the faster you will forget or neglect your customers or vendors (read as voters here) the faster than that they will forget you, a good businessman never forgets this basics of any business, which unfortunately BJP seems to have forgotten & paid for! And do mind, just being good in communication & being seen or available may make you popular for some time but to win a battle all the time you must need something more than that & that is to deliver! In the business (or in the elections), it is not only what you advertise or sponsor that will make you successful but it is what you physically deliver in the end to your customers, which will only decide whether you end up as a winner or a loser! And for that you must understood who has to be delivered what i.e. a flat holder will need a good home & post occupation service while your contractor will need timely payment, your professional service providers will need a bit of respect also for their knowledge in addition of the payment for their services & your team will need confidence you show in them & team, do mind your employer (owner) will need an assurance from you that you are trying to put your best & not just dragging yourself for salary! All this makes a package named “right delivery to the right customer” as then only the trust gets built-up on your brand or name!

As an opposition, please do mind, one win doesn’t decide the result of the entire war & what most of us forget is to analyze why you won! In Kasba, the opposition parties not just stood together but they fought as one team forgetting differences & that's the most basic lesson for any match which we often forget with little success! At our workplace also, for the outsiders we must be one team & not some legal dept. or planning dept. or accounts dept. or sales or marketing, as these are compartments made of work discipline & not as some country’s border! We may work as different dept but we should never forget the object for which we all are united under one banner (flag in case of a party) & that is to win if it’s an election & to deliver the product, when it’s a company like ours!

I think if you have kept patience till now then I have won my battle to deliver what I wanted to share through this analysis & I am thankful to the democracy of this country & most importantly to the voters of Kasba Peth constituency, as whether BJP or Opposition learns from this election is their concern but for me it's like relearning (reopening of my eyes) best of the life lessons which will definitely help me in keeping my feet grounded. My sons & my team, I will be happy if you also learn through it as not many schools will award you a degree at the cost of failures (and fees) of other students the way Kasba Peth elections has done, whether to grab this degree or not, is up to you only! Adios, with this note!
