Being Brave!

-
“Braveness is not absence of fear, it’s overcoming the fear within”...

I myself have thought the quote & wrote so didn’t bother to write the name of the author & I think that’s also outcome of the fear only, finding the philosopher within, lol! For the first time I have touched my fears so closely & I am sure many of us has felt it same way as for the first time we are clueless about the cure for the fear & it’s not for some virus but it’s like they show in classic horror movies, it’s for unknown things which is hidden behind some close door of a rundown place! I am not frightening or sharing this for increasing negativity or fear, I am writing this for myself to meet my fears as that’s the best way you can overcome your fear, is what I have read & understood!

Well, by now you must have understood & even irritated as one more corona forward but do read as of-late I have stopped reading news papers or whatsap forwards or watching FB/Insta posts about corona, not because I am some super human but everything has limit! Interestingly my younger son changed his DP to this one which says, “You never know how string you are unless being strong is the only choice you have”! Interesting, that’s the way this genre can think (well, using DP means I think they know) of adversities & face it; we the grown-ups have a lot to learn from them actually. On face the young genre so called millennium kids i.e. born in internet era looks careless, irresponsible even irritating many a times but the every genre has that tag stuck by the earlier ones! But last three days when we all are stuck at home, it’s this genre which is taking the locked up scene with more ease than me is what irritated me at first but then I started trying to understand why they are so kool about all the hustle around! And main issue is we mix being careful with worry & recklessness with courage! At the same time we just have not learnt to sit idle & always take it as waste of time, in fact all our actions, opinions, calculations are based on one thing & that is wastage. We get irritated when money is wasted in some shopping, we get irritated when food is wasted in some restaurant, we get irritated at traffic signal for fuel is wasted, no wonder we get irritated when sitting at home (forcefully) we are most irrigated that our time is being wasted! And then we are bought up with one single philosophy i.e. wastage is bad & time is money, so wasting time is double irritation for most of us which are both sides of fifties’ by age!

Well sometimes taking a break is not called as wastage & it’s not the time is what gets wasted it’s the way we use that time is what defines it a waste! (Again, my own philosophy only!). I started writing everyday something for my own as “Corona Diaries”, but then decided against it & tagged it as just “Being Brave” as I tried to write down something every day which will make me know my fears better & not feel guilty or irritated for being locked at home, here it is...you are free not to read it & delete it without readingJ.. sanjay

Thank you Corona!!

Bad things sometimes get best out of us...

Indeed we all (me too) are scared from within due to this corona virus & keeping all respect to those who are actually suffering by its menace & those who have lost their close ones to it yet covid has made us realize many things about we the humans going beyond our self created walls of nationality, colour, caste, gender, religion & yes status!

It made us realize we are humans first & then everything & first time it’s like entire world is at war but the enemy is not some human yet it’s common for all! It made us realize coming together is the best way to solve any problem & we actually can come together forgetting our self created boundaries!

It made us realize however progress we may have made in science yet we don’t have fast solutions to every problem nature puts in front of us! It made us realize when a disaster hits us then we can be actually civic & instead blaming each others for the disaster, jointly we can face the disaster!! It made us realize (hopefully) that best way to live at peace is being healthy as corona don’t spare u because you are  rich man or u are head of some country!

It made us realize that its helping each other & not hating,  is what makes us a human & live & let live is the way which only will sustain & its applicable for every specie! It should make us know our duty towards survival of other species also for which we the humans are Corona!

Finally with the success stories of winning over corona, it has made us realize that we can come together, actually & win over even strongest of the enemy!!

Thank you Corona, u once again made us Humans... frds, be that way & fight this war vs. Corona together & let’s not forget the lesson once we have won the war..!!

Frds,

These are tough times for most of us on business, home & even social front & we all looks at each other’s for moral boosting as most of us are scared for business or health from the impact  by the unknown fear named Corona!! Don’t wait, take lead & be the leader to boost morale of yourself & others...I try to do... so sharing something with you...

No’s
At such time, try avoid reading negative news headlines or violence types programs on TV, delete any forward which may scare u than aware u as well don’t pass on such forwards neither discuss much about losses business are making & how all this has  made impact on our work or industry as well health! Speak how good u can do than how bad things are! Don’t start running around like sky have fallen with slightest of cough or sinus, just to your doc with calm mind, don’t ignore it though.

The Do's are...

Use the free time at hand ...Read inspiring stories from books or novels.
Watch light or good message carrying movies of Disney / DreamWorks on your TV or Netflix or Hot star...Toy story, Ice age, Madagascar, Coco, Clause, Marvel End Game r few names of such movies, which will keep your mind believe in goodness & strength of togetherness & bonding.
Watch Nat Geo or Animal Planet where survival in adversities is the key in nature.

Indulge sometime at home in any hobby, reading, writing, painting anything you feel as that’s best way to improve u as a person!

Most importantly do take care by using sanitizers & hygiene but start exercising if u are not doing & don’t miss rather increase the workout  intensity if u r exercising already. A long walk in open air or running depending up on your age is best way along with stretching at home. As exercising not only makes u fit by body & immunity it helps in best way to make your mind positive, which is need of not these times but all times!..

Don’t just read but make in practice & share with your family & frds... *sanjay deshpande & team Sanjeevani*

It's not about Corona!

Each morning now days we woke up & if there is been slightest of giddiness or sour throat or choked nose or mild headache then no more we just ignore & starts the day with the note, oh, ok one more day! Around us if someone sneezes we now don’t laugh & say  "u are excused"  or if someone is having cough we don’t pat his back & offer water but moves away from him, is someone says he is feeling feverish we silently decides to keep distance from him instead caring for him! On road while walking on footpath we avoid to look at even known faces & at grocery shops looking at  small crowd gathered at counter we curse ourselves as well the crowd  for nothing. We avoid going to doctor fearing what the patients can be carrying in waiting room. We have cancelled already made travel plans & postponed new ones. And lastly now we hate unexpected visitors pushing our door bail especially those who has recently travelled from abroad!

This is about not about corona but life we are living individually & this makes me hate myself more than the corona virus as somewhere under the name of being cautious we are becoming unhappy & suspicious of everything around!! This is what selfish fear of unknown can do to strongest of the minds & real fight is not with corona but with sanity in our own self!

This doesn’t mean, be careless & move around as nothing has happened, this means, don’t lose living by carrying fear of something which can be faced with balance mind!!

This situation in a way is a boon as most of us who considers themselves successful by the position, status, knowledge we have gained, has forgotten to face the fear of a thing which we don’t understand or cant bought or beaten just with our success!

This is not just test of some viral infection but its test of what we are within!!! As corona can be beaten by only one thing & that is facing it with balanced happy mind & togetherness but then so can be every adversity!!

It's Not End of the World yet!

Well, my genre which is in 50's is really lucky as we have taken vaccines of cholera, devi, polio & what not in the school days as well we  have seen the panic of Skylab falling on our head & people coming out of house & remain awake for whole night looking at sky. And those were days without even TV & here we  are in a era where one get to know what’s happening in  remotest  parts of the world like Arctic or Forests of Amazon  that to live action!

What have we gained or say learnt by this power of information is what I ask myself, every day! We have gained lots of information indeed which we think is knowledge but we have lost the power of analysis or say we have given up logic, to the flow of this information which hits us 24x7 by a giant power source , more powerful than even the sun i.e. that’s media. And wave after wave this information keep crashing on our mind named barrier via TV, mobile & its apps like insta, whatsap, news papers, internet on our pc & laptops by twitter or fb & our mind just can’t stand against it  because we have long forgotten to train it or say strengthen it!

Our views, our all talks whenever we meet in person to others, our arguments, even our rights or wrongs, everything is based on  this information named power & we just recite what’s been thrown at us!

This is where our genre has become soft  target of media as not just about some virus but right from parenting  to choosing our leader, every decision of ours seems to be controlled by media indirectly making us just a prey unknowingly!!

High time we take back our mind to the days when we used to thing by ourself, we used to apply our brains not just to solve questions in exams but even to get the cricket ball back which has landed in the premise of a khadus neighbour without him knowing about it!!

Frds, we have seen life from all dimensions & yet if we end up choosing easy way then we have no right to call ourselves grownups & be proud to have witnessed radio Ceylon to I Phone x ...use your mind before you believe on any information, analyze & act wisely, that’s the lesson which we only has to learn now, as "Its Not End of the World yet"

Streets can be locked down, open up the minds!

Well one more morning comes with many more fearing news & locking down streets i.e. curfew nearly all over the country not just Pune is one. But how one can lock a mind which knows no boundaries especially when thinking on negativity, is the main question!!

Now the fight is not on streets with some corona virus & illness it brings to our body, the real fight is mental & it’s against virus named fear, anxiety as well negativity & they all reside right within our mind! Locking down the minds means giving them freedom actually, instead open up our minds, let the joy,  happiness  freed up to enter which are antidotes on fear ! Remember however warm sun light & breeze is outside but until u open-up your home's windows it can’t come inside your house!! Same is with the mind!

By the way, the first family of covid19 victim is free of it & the society in which they are residing is ready to welcome them, that’s opening up minds & letting the joy named sunlight enter in & melt the fear named darkness..!!

Stamp Duty Reduction; Band-Aid on the Wound!

--

“When the truth hurts, create a better truth.”...Freequill.

Once again I am surrendered to this guy’s wisdom & this time it’s about real estate & though Freequill anonymous writer who prefers to remain faceless & whose most quotes are about nature & life yet they are applicable to most of the things around us, even when the subject is as boring as real estate & stamp duty! And by the time I started this sharing the news of reduction of stamp duty by 1 % (wow full 1 % !) has been forgotten by the dark clouds named Corona Effect surrounding the already darkened faces of most businessmen (read as Industries) around us. Needless to say real estate wasn’t going through a good patch in recent (read as last 4 years) yet like in Marathi there is phrase, “Budatyala kadicha aadhar” means, for a person who is drowning even a small piece of wood feels like a great help! Same way the 1% reduction of stamp duty news came as a silver lining to the darkness named recession. Actually I never feel this is recession to real estate but then that’s different topic, let’s focus on the impact of this stamp duty news on real estate in Pune.

Yes, Pune as in this Smart City we were paying the price of being Smart because in Pune the stamp duty is nearly 7% of the transaction plus registration charges! I never understand this registration charges thing as when you are already collecting stamp duty why you have to ask for registration charges separately on the deal, isn’t it over burden? It’s like making “tip” compulsory under the sweet tag of service charges in hotels which leaves sour taste in the mouth after a nice meal but any way that’s the way govt is! Well, now those lucky souls who doesn’t know what a stamp duty is (yes, there are many such) & even for those who knows what is stamp duty but doesn’t know its purpose of the way it’s been charged or calculation of it, I am not a expert but with twenty five & odd years in real estate you come to know about few things little  better than others & stamp duty is like a package deal with any deal in real estate, so I started knowing a bit about the same. On any immovable property deal (read as sale or purchase) govt charges certain amount in proportion of the value of the deal & this can be paid either by the buyer or the seller (mostly the buyer ends up paying it) & then only the deal is considered as complete i.e. registered in govt revenue records & the said immovable property can be transferred on the name of the buyer from the name of the seller! Simple, isn’t it but no, it’s not that simple as this proportionate (%) keeps changing according to the cities & Pune is highest in the State i.e. 7% of the deal value! Mean if you buy a flat worth Rs.1 crore then you have to pay stamp duty of Rs 7.0 lac on this deal plus Rs 35 k as registration charges! And then this stamp duty is directly related to the ready reckoner value of the said property also, means if as per the govt book’s (ready reckoner rates) the property cost is more than your deal the you have to pay stamp duty on the higher value even if you are buying it at lower value! And there is more for different types of deals, this happens in Joint Venture, the working of stamp duty can differ such as construction cost, market cost of the property etc & all this does affect on the finish product i.e. the home or say flat! As all these expenses are being loaded finally on the flat salable rate only!

So if you have understood the stamp duty concept then let me tell you stamp duty also contributes in major way in State Govt’s entire revenue, nearly 30% & so is a important aspect for the govt as through this revenue the govt can carry infrastructure as well welfare works for the citizens’ of the State. And that’s why when a govt reduces the stamp duty, even by mere 1% it is an important step as first the State is already short of funds & is debt ridden & second this means the govt seriously (hope so) understands real estate needs a booster & third the govt thinks for the end user of the real estate i.e. the home buyer. Because if the average price of a flat in Pune is considered as Rs 50 lac then strait way there is saving of Rs 50,000.00 for every average flat transaction for the buyer & indeed in present time it is big incentive! As at present the factual scene in real-estate is there are only genuine end users i.e. home buyers who are buying a home to live in it & they need to do that with the help of home loans for which registered document is a must which means stamp duty payment. And this end user of real estate is mostly salaried class & for them every single rupee counts as earning is fixed so is loan amount & so is budget to buy the home!

As well even for investors, here many will ask are there any investors left in real estate (rather with share market down by Corona effect, are there any investors left at all, is what I will ask to such people)? My answer is, there are investors in the real estate yet but they don’t know how & where & that’s the job of the builders & their teams (read as marketing) to make such investors enlighten about changed scene in real estate investment! And when I say enlighten about real estate I don’t mean by showing some rosy or false dreams but still real estate is one of the best investment  if done wisely (so is any investment of course) where your returns are sure, provided you know why you are buying the property & for how much time-span! Means is it just appreciation or rental or a make-shift arrangement for stay which later you will sale! Because in compare to any other commodity its real estate only which won’t lose its glitter just like the gold, when you will be selling it!
In all these cases still a saving of Rs 50 k (average for 2 bhk) in the form of saving in stamp duty is a bonus & as I said it’s a big step by State govt to boost up real estate sentiments. As in present times even the State govt is hard pressed of revenue generation & any reduction in its own revenue sure is a good sign that the govt understands need of supporting real estate & this doesn’t mean to support builders but the real needy home buyers!

Now after thanks-giving to the State govt about their stamp duty reduction yet few questions remains as with due respect this 1% reduction in stamp duty is like applying band-aid (adhesive medicine tape) when the wound needs to be operated with nearly hundreds of stitches to close it & heal permanently! As it’s not just stamp duty but the ready reckoner rates of the properties which have been worked on the basis of boom wave of real estate rates i.e. nearly four years back. And agreed last one or two years those rates have not been increased while the property rates have slumped back to four years in many places. So, high time to revise ready reckoner rates to the rational level i.e. in tune with market level. Because our “Mai Baap Sarkar” i.e. govt is expert in the game of giving a gift by one hand & taking the gift back by another hand! So if the ready reckoner rate increases which ideally must be reduced then this 1% reduction gift in stamp duty will be of no use! More than that, let’s rationally work out the entire taxation (burden) on real estate’s end product i.e. a home as agreed there will be two tyre system of tax by Central govt & State govt but in case of real estate there are many tyres. Right from the latest ESR Ses (Environment Social Responsibility) to local body’s (PMC/PCMC) & then within that road premium to fire premiums & then there is MSEDCL (MSEB) & property tax & the list is endless like Hanunamji’s Puchh (a Hindi phrase)! In the end, nearly six hundred to seven hundred rupees per sq ft is loaded on flat’s selling rate with all these govt taxes (income tax seperete) & which was ok till few years back but in today’s scene if a flat purchaser negotiates with tooth & nail for flat’s price (discount) then why not govt also takes part in that discount instead becoming party to the real estate only for profits; is what my question to all the policy makers of the real estate! This reduction of stamp duty step must be considered 9read as taken) on all fronts of charges by govt agencies, isn’t it?

And then in lieu of all these govt money (taxes, stamp duty, premiums etc), what the builder or the flat holder is getting in return, is also a big question. Because barring few areas in our Smart Pune city where home rates are beyond the common man, most of the suburbs lacks basic civic infrastructure like water, roads & drainage is a fact. Its high time for real estate that, why then we have to pay so much to the govt per sq ft of what we build or what we sale or what we buy; is the question not just builders but the home buyers must ask there only lies the affordability for all the segment in real estate. Or else be happy with the band-aid therapy on your wound & wait till it heals naturally & pray to the god for not requiring to cut your organ because of gangrene named un-affordability!

Mulshi Pattern ; Learning Lesson for Real Estate!

--
“When a man is denied the right to live the life he believes in, he has no choice but to become an outlaw.”... Nelson Mandela.

Well, many will wonder above words which came from a man who believes in peace & was a strong follower of Mahatma Gandhi & his philosophy but indeed they are by Nelson Mandela, Noble Prize winner for Peace & who came in ruling in country like South Africa which was supposedly ruled by outlaws! And no wonder its Mandela’s above quote which has been backbone (read Salim Javed) for our Bollywood movies for decades & has given us Super Stars like AB & many more! I am sure at least my genre which is around both sides of fifty must have guessed the theme, “aadmi padiaishi gunehagar nahi hota, halat use bana dete hai” i.e. no man is born criminal, it’s the situation which makes him so! For decades Bollywood cinemas has been build on this one sentence & kept box office ringing & the skill of the director, scrip writer is to present this one sentence with different ”Tadaka” every time!
I happen to watch Mulshi Pattern, a Marathi version of this theme & indeed for the first time, Marathi has produced a real life crime thriller, I must say. I am big fan of movies but off late have not been having much of exposure of Marathi movies & the fault lays with me entirely & my first encounter with MP (nickname Mulshi Pattern) was through a You Tube item song of few Bhai’s dancing on a tune which was about builders & there image in society! It was annoying at first sight as indeed builders definitely are no saints but as it’s my profession too I thought the picturisition is bit over portraying builders as other side of gangster. But then in most recent films the profession of main villain is no more smuggler or drug paddler or just a robber (Daku) who comes by boat or ride horses & fires guns in the air & threatens common people. Now the villain sits in posh offices under name board of some Malhotra Developers or Thapar Infra & drives a Merc or BMW Sedan chauffer driven, with immaculate dressing & soft spoken. He isn’t needed to carry a gun even for self protection but has own bodyguards who does all safety thing for him & he sent army of bulldozers & JCB’s to harm common people now. Oh yes, he has fleet of Lawyers & CAs’ too,  to fight for  him the legal & financial battles as well he has ties with gangsters but he is not one!

This aspect has been also now common in Bollywood & right from Satya to Sarakar Raj, builders are best villains has been accepted by masses but Marathi Movies hasn’t yet used the Mandela philosophy so strongly & after watching that song clip (Bhai Ka Birthday) I decided to watch the movie & full marks for MP team as the powerful way MP has lived by Mandela quote! Joke is though this Builder-Bhai (a term used for gangster in Marathi) relation has started from “Aamchi Mumbai’ i.e. from Bombay real estate,  yet rarely it’s been reflected in Marathi movie industry & when its recent crime & business in hand (sorry fellow developers) how we can forget our Pune also where real estate is booming! Any field which makes money more than its worth always attracts wrong elements & real estate is best example of it! At the same time if you push someone to limit then that someone also can be your most dangerous enemy, this a wise man always know & never push anybody to that limit but then real estate rarely has wise men! Outcome was using all wrong means to acquire lands which are raw material for real estate instead using good business practises, something which real estate was any way known for! And it’s this greed of few bad men (read as builders) which push a common man Rahul alias Rahulya to become a Bhai & his journey towards his own destruction is MP.

Interestingt part is even being a very local backdrop i.e. Mulshi is a Taluka near Pune where land deals majorly has gone sour due to sudden rise of land prices & presence of every bad element which comes with fast money, yet the story appealed to each one from rural to Metro city because most of the characters in the script we see every day around! Right from Nanyabhai & his mates & his birthday parties where builders to politicians rush to make the appearance & even the police officer’s characters are interesting. Frankly every character in the script has met us somewhere in some form, may be even via some Bollywood movie yet here in MP you feel the closeness & that’s the best part of it. And then there is no hero here in MP as everyone is hero & villain too, as the line between goodness & badness merges for every character at some point! Basically why MP appealed to most of the classes is not just people love crime & builders & gangsters, that they do any way but what people must have liked ( I do) is, each of us can correlate with the characters in MV as we all do things as per our convenience & blame it on situation! Whereas life always gives us choices but we conveniently use easy option & try to prove our self right. The relationship between Rahulya & his watchman cum labour at market yard as well ex chief of village father reminds you Bachaan & Rohini Hattangadi in Agnipath yet it touches you equally as many of us may not be exactly bhai or gangster but we do change sides of right & wrong where as our earlier genre was much sorted out on this front & that’s why if not happy was mostly at peace & we search for peace with every pleasure avenue available to us!

Even the policemen’s chemistry is wonderful as it’s easy to blame the police for every crime happening around (well, like builder this is also mostly true) yet when entire society is fan of a criminal the task of policing becomes real tough. The scene in which that Inspector gets out bhaigiri craze from the mind of a teenager by humiliating a bhai in front of all in the police station is wonderful & a must show to many teens whose aspiration is to become a bhai & move around with people giving them way out of fear! Even the heroine i.e. the woman in the life of main character i.e. Rahulya has shown choosing her own way to fight with disparity & yet keeping the bond with rahulya as somewhere she knows he too is a good man within!

Coming to the main tow characters i.e. Rahulya the supposedly hero of the movie & inspector Vitthal which is like central character through which the script moves ahead. Best thing about bhaigiri in MP the way a fearful bhai has shown running for his life & around that run entire story opens up as by me the message is very clear, you may fear few people with a gang & some weapons but at the end you also are a common man who has to run for your life when things goes against, so the Rahulya is shown doing! Inspector Vitthal is like Krishna of Mahabharata, he himself has his own morals, values & philosophy but he has framed it in his own law book of life as when he could have save Rahulya from the rival gang, he doesn’t at that point somewhere he also changes the sides with so called law & here is where you come to know that law & justice are not always same side of the coin! Needless to say again the end is like we have seen where the negative or say dark sided hero ends his life at mostly at the hands of law (Shakti, Satya, Apaharan & many) but here in MP the system which makes a Bhai, that only kills the bad hero! And to show the bhai hero getting killed at the hands of a school boy with gun, whether it’s right or wrong, is something can be debated but that’s the fact around as that school boy also has shown a past victim of crime the same path which has drawn rahulya on the path of bhaigiri!

Last but a must mention, characters of rahulya as best buddy Ganya &  advocate of the gangsters the Vakil; well again we have seen even the baddest of gangsters having buddies who gives life for them & so Ganya does in the movie making me always question about what we call best friend or a buddy! Whether he (or she) is a guy who stands beside you even when you are wrong path & prefer to meet the end with you or whether he crosses your path & try to pull you out from the wrong track & in process carries a threat of losing you as a friend! Well, till now I opt for the later, maybe that’s what we call outcome of good or right upbringing i.e. in Marathi “Sanskar”! And about Vakil, it’s the perfect character the system named crime produces as frankly keeping full respect for judicially or the law or right of the individual, you call anything to it but if you can lawfully prove some murderer as innocent, what will you call such person or a the system which allows such person to be successful in doing what he does! Frankly I don’t have an answer yet, but the Vakil character made me think on this aspect of life once again is a fact!

And to conclude, what’s take away from the MP apart from it’s a good entertainer? Every teen or a school goer or even the youngsters who says the system sucks & can’t give them justice so they believe in delivering their own justice, well answer for them is there are better ways to get justice than just taking a gun in hand & grabbing it! The right way to face adversities in life may be tough but that the way which some day eventually will take you to your destination! And for the real estate guys, the line between aspiring to be a successful businessman & greed is very thin, & one never knows when he or she crosses it & that’s why that line must be drawn very clearly & right from beginning in your mind, is the take away from the movie! I think one of the producers is himself a builder & that’s why the subject real estate or land was handled so perfectly & yes, full marks to nanyabhai who is director also of the movie to remain a puppet handler & make every more to perfection! Indeed every movie is made for entertainment of the masses but when it delivers some good message or philosophy also along, well that’s what we call icing on the cake, isn’t it, so is Mulshi Pattern!

World Wild Life Day, Chinkaras & Flamingos!

--

--
“We will spend billions making inhospitable distant planets habitable. And yet we spend trillions destroying the abundant ingredients for life on our home planet.”... Freequill.

Activist and writer who goes by the alias Freequill and chooses to remain anonymous. I wonder what kind of brain can think in such wonderful way about our planet & good he prefers to remain anonymous as such species with such mind are rare & endangered actually! And when it’s destroying the nature which comes best in the form of habitats & for that we need not have to go far away but right in our backyard the destruction starts! Yes & this destruction of habitats comes under many sweet tags, sometimes it’s for development, sometimes it’s for our needs, sometimes its due to sheer ignorance , sometimes its due to arrogance (i know it all, types) & all these tags are actually fake as the real reason of habitat destruction is, our greed! And in that greed we don’t spare any piece of land or water body or even sky which is called as habitat, near or far away from us!
Well, for those ignorant (genuinely) people who don’t know what a habitat is, just stand in front of a mirror & ask yourself what you need to live happily in your life? Answer is simple; you need those concrete walls with club house, air conditioners & modern gadgets which you call a home. Then you need a space with glass facade & located in some sky scrapper cut away from ground where you go to earn money which you call your office. You need a place depending up on your mood which will feed you food & drink, you call it as eating joints & you need a place where you will spend your money to shop for your needs where you buy hundreds of unnecessary commodities just because they are available & you can afford to buy them & you call that place a Mall! Mostly your life’s time is spent in activities which happens in & around these four places & it’s what can be called as your habitat, got it?

Now, apart from we the humans, on this planet thousands or say millions of other species also live along, which we have categorized as fish, mammals, birds, insects, reptiles, trees etc & the only difference between them & we the humans is, all these species doesn’t have a big brain which makes us smarter than them (we only have decided it)! But all these species also need food, a space to live along with family so their fraternity can grow healthy & happy, just like we bring up our family. All these species also need to work though their work reason is not to earn money but to earn their food & they can’t buy food as they are not as smart as us & they too need recreational spaces for their cubs or fawn or young ones to play around. The only thing the other species doesn’t need is shopping space as they are not as greedy as us fortunately, so barring shopping space every other species needs space just the way we the humans need every day, all along the life span! So this space which every fish, mammal, reptile , bird, tree, insect etc need to survive is called as their habitats which we the humans are destructing for our needs i.e. our habitat, throwing these species not just out of their habitats but out of earth, in clear words, making them extinct!
This is exactly why we need to visit the habitats which are spread all around us, some are literally in the back yard of our building in the form of a pond or an open space with shrubs or even a big banyan tree as all such places are homes for some insects, some birds, a squirrel or even a frog & we blatantly destroy it (read as use that space) for our so called needs, that is destruction of habitat! And if this is the case with our backyard’s habitats then imagine what must be happening with habitats which we often name as forest & which are away from us! And not necessarily the forests means ever-green, thickly wooded lands we call as Project Tiger, as forests can come to greet us in many forms such as wet lands, grass lands, dry & arid lands, even desserts can be forests as every specie has its own needs to survive & it includes geographic as well climatic conditions.

Such as wet lands of Bhigwan i.e. Ujani dam’s backwater can be habitat for many migratory birds like flamingos because of their food algae which can be formed in only shallow waters here! Same way there are dry grass lands making it ideal home to specie like Chinkara i.e. Gazelle (a type of deer) & one such was on my agenda for a long, yes I am referring to Mayursehwar Sanctuary near Smart Habitat of humans i.e. Pune. Located on east side of Pune, some eighty kilometres on Solapur high-way when you take turn towards Indapur & leave village Supa then suddenly the sugarcane fields give up along with urban skyline & you enter in dry hills with yellow grass & shrubs with thorns all around. It was start of Summer & at first all you see around is barren land with no life on it & just when you start wondering why you have come here, suddenly on the horizon of yellow grass you saw outline of an animal walking slowly in search of food & its grace with pointed twisted horns & the cadbury brown shining coat makes it such a mesmerizing sight that you forget the barren dry terrain! Up above on the blue background of the sky you can see a scaled egale houvering with a snake in its claw & then you realize how alive these barren lands are! This is Mayureshwar, probably last of the secured home (habitat) for chinakars & they are not alone, there are jackals, harriers, eagles, monitor lizards, shrike & hundreds of other species which has made this barren looking deserted dry grass land as their perfect home! Just some twenty years back most of the district places or towns in the State has such grass lands around where if not chinkaras but you could see hare or jackals or fox type animals & birds moving around freely making it their habitat but slowly as we the humans started growing in numbers & greed, we encroached these habitats one by one & now all that is left for chinakaras is the patches like Mayureshwar.

And practically all these animals needs nothing as looking at these barren lands one can wonder how somebody can survive here with so less rain & the soil structure such that rain water percolates deep within the earth but chinkaras can survive on minimum water & even by eating dry grass & so does many species with this as their habitat. But what they can’t survive is human interference! Most of these animal species are shy & are afraid of humans & its the humans which hunt them & kill for pleasure as well for eating as we aren’t satisfied with what comes in our plate as normal food & always want something more, that’s greed!
And though we name Mayureshwar type places a Sanctuary i.e. protected forests yet with the kind of infrastructure in terms of man-power or money-power we give to forest dept which is supposedly to protect such habitats, its Mission Impossible task for them, is a bitter fact we conveniently forget & the we don’t have a Tom Cruise as our forest officers is another bitter fact! Take example of Mayureshwar, it’s been urbanized from all sides & you can see either farming or plotted lay-out’s fencing around making chinkaras no where to go further deep in their habitat as its enclosed by the humans from all the sides. A District/ State road cuts right between these grass lands & continues movement of traffic is a problem to the privacy of animals’ as well direct threat to their safety from poaching type elements! And this is not the story of Mayureshwar but majority of such habitats, which are making every specie like chinkara & other many extinct slowly! Unless more & more people (read as tourists) visits places like Mayureshwar & such habitats, masses will be unaware about the importance of such places & the threat they are facing for their survival & for that we need to make these places come on the map of tourism & provide facilities for the tourists which are lacking frankly! At least this much our govt can do or allow like minded (read forest lovers) people to come ahead & set up some tourist related facilities here so the people visiting these lands, will go back to their Smart Cities & tell others about such habitats & urge them help to conserve these places from the humans!

Then there is Bhigwan, Wet Lands which is habitat of many species of birds & aquatic animals making the back water of Ujani dam a perfect habitat i.e. home for them. And here because of awareness of tourists & locals, situation is improving but we need to have basic facilities like proper jetty as at bhigwan you have to use a boat to see the birds & know this wetland-forest. Unfortunately there is no proper or safe & clean arrangement (even wash-rooms) from where you get in these boats & this much we must do. Good part is now the locals have participated in conservation of this wet land habitat especially one Sandeep Nagare who along with his family & local youths trying to promote the Ujani back water & helping to save this habitat. Again here the problems is  not just encroachment but  pollution of the water body & again we the Smart City’s (Pune) residents are responsible for it, as all what we throw in our rivers ends here in this water body because it happens to be on our downstream!
Friends on the occasion of 3rd March, which is World Wild Life day, lets remind ourselves how lucky we are to have around a sight of Chinakars & Flamingos moving freely in their homes, just the way we see happy human families in many advertisements.
But unlike we have a system named govt or society for making lives of humans peacefully & happy the poor Chinkaras & Flamingos has none such system to protect themselves, because they are not as Smart as we are! Do mind, if all our Smartness is not being used to make other specie’s lives also happy & peaceful by conserving habitats, then that will be the best example of our Foolishness actually & that day there won’t be even God around to laugh on our foolishness as he too would have been extinct along with all these habitats!
