Learning Discipline, India's Way!

-
“Easiest way to learn Discipline is by following blindly what your parents & teachers tells you when you are young; hardest way is adopting it when there is no option left but being disciplined”...Vince Lombard.

Vince is one of the best coach in sports history of USA & a die hard belliever of discipline! It’s day 6th of nationwide lockdown & I woke up in early morn  (I usually do) with announcement on speaker from a police car, warning morning walkers/ joggers to return back to their homes or else face legal action, that is weirdest morning start I have ever woke up with! Had it been any other times, I would have laughed but this is not time to laugh as though we all keep sharing hundreds of pranks/memes/ cartoons on the present covid war yet deep somewhere hidden the fear does leaves its taste on our tongues for sure & even if we deny its presence, it’s right there & I am not ashamed of my fear rather accepting its existence makes me better placed to overcome it & go on! Well, as I looked down & could see many people of all genders walking in their exercise gear on wide footpath of 100 ft wide riverside road on which I live & few were even doing stretching exercise also. Then the realization sunk in, man, its lockdown in the country & we are supposed to be inside our homes protecting ourselves from spread of some virus & here people are on streets just like normal day; this is not innocence or bravery, this is total foolish ignorance!

But then what can be expected from the lot which respond to the appeal of our Hon. PM  for chanting at 5pm on curfew day to show our support to medical personalities’ by running processions !! We are ignorant foolish lot has been proved on thousands of occasions, may it be jumping red signals or not wearing helmet while riding a two wheeler or feeling insulted using seat belts while we drive a posh SUV at 100km/ hr or even making a queue on our own to buy grocery & ending up in a stampede, thousands of examples we not just see but become part of our ignorantly foolish attitude towards life every day here in this country & we take pride in it under the name of democracy, what else police should expect but to shoo away learned white collared citizens from the streets by threatening them of legal  action, when these citizens very well knows that they should have been locked down in their homes than exercising in public place!!

And then it’s not these learned citizens but the system which we call govt is hundred percent responsible for allowing this "chalata hai" attitude not just survive but grow strong in the minds of we the Indians. Our goddess of justice is shown blind & that’s for making common man assure that every person is same in front of law but the law makers & its executioners are conveniently blind, is the root cause of our this attitude!! A small example is  red signal jumping, many a times a traffic cop turns blind eyeat it but caught the same rider  when its helmet wearing drive. People carelessly enter in No Entry roads & gets away 90 out of 100 times without getting caught & when they get caught we know what happens next!

We spit everywhere except in our home, we throw garbage in rivers, on roads at our will, we respond to our nature call on road just by turning our back to the world thinking nobody looks at us (well, we lack public toilets is equally the reason) & we are worst when it comes to follow hygiene in public, visit any public toilet or park or heritage monuments & check by yourself if you don’t agree with me! Lastly in every town, city or metro huge processions chocks the already narrow streets on smallest of occasions (birthday of some local galli Bhai) & with loudest of music blasting from speakers' walls & behold its ban by Hon Supreme Court of this country & yet in every town, city & metro the law executioners’ turns blind eye & deaf ear to these processions under name of its public demand, what we can do! Lastly, we have norms & rules for building homes which makes a society but all around the country thousands of men build structures named home at their will without any permission & millions of more men buys it & lives in them & the very same govt appeals to Hon Court to make this legality legal under the tag of public need & we expect law abiding attitude in citizens, whom we are fooling guys? Here whatever you do all gets covered up in one sentence, “Chalata hai, bhaiyaa”!

When one person that too with no power of money or some post or even muscle power breaks any law the that’s an offense & every system which is arm of the govt is ready to frame that person which we call a common man but when one person with little bit of power in above mentioned form breaks any law then rarely we see he or she getting framed! And then when thousands of people breaks law, behave undisciplined even they are common men, yet the law doesn’t dare to punish them for their offense considering it as public demand, then with such society when a disaster hits & we need to follow discipline & lockdown ourselves inside our homes, tell me how we are going to expect it to happen!

Yet it’s a miracle that streets are with so less traffic & many people still prefer to remain within the homes because this country itself is a miracle. Decades back in "Amar, Akbar, Atnthony" named movie, Bachhan looks at some villain who has shown running with stolen gold & comments, “Aisa aadmi life me doich baar bhagta hai, Olympic ka race ho ya to police ka case ho” means a man runs so fast in only two times, either he is participating in Olympic race or police is behind him! This is India; we never had coach like Vince Lombard though we have far better parents & teachers than any country ever has but we preferred to learn discipline only by hardest way, so be it; “tab tak chala lo jitana chalata hai bhayya, apnahi Desh hai”!

  1. Hi...your concerns are eye opener even for people in home.
People breaking law will not listen to any one.
Your point is great to note...we need descipline like Vince..very badly.
Hope in our life this attitude is changed.
I feel difference in our land and USa where we stayed for 6 years...in USa law is followed by 95 % people and 95 make it enforce on remaking 5.
We have in our country reverse.
    Thanks for writing eye openers.
I wish you more power to write further.
