Desperate Times, Desperate Measures!!

-
"Desperate Times, Desperate Measures"... Ethan Hunt.

Well, no need to tell many who is this guy & where this quote is from, yet there always are a few innocent souls, for them this is from a lead character in Hollywood Movie series Mission Impossible!

Our dearest Hon. PM is expert in taking shocking (can’t dare to write desperate) decisions & no wonder, in this covid fight shocking decisions are bound to be taken, as never the entire country has witnessed a total lock-down (no news paper, can’t remember when its last happened), rather most population (even police) also were & is clueless about what it is exactly means & how its executed!! Sometimes, 130 crore is a cursed figure, especially when locking all of them inside their homes & then we are never famous for law or say civic law abiding people exception of mumbaikars who knows discipline is the only way to life. And then it’s Bombay only which has seen most lockdowns i.e. curfews may it be communal riots or bomb blasts or terror attacks but this one is different from all of our previous attacks actually!

Giving full respect to  govt's approach towards fighting this attack yet few questions have remained ignored & people are whispering now, but soon it will be a loud shout & that is what about financial losses with all this lockdown thing?? Indeed this is a war & there will be damage & wounds & suffering & pain it brings along & we are ready for it but a war is said to be won only if we survive to enjoy the fruits of the victory! Already most industries were bleeding with the downfall of economy before this war started & few days closure is ok but nearly a month of total shut down, well , not many businesses or industries will be in position to open up again for sure if some package is not offered to them & soon!!

Hon. PM Sir, not just the industries like hotels, tourism, entertainment but even auto industry & real estate looks at you with hope & the way military takes care of its every jawan, its duty of the govt to take care of every citizen who is like a jawan in this war, not for just our country but entire humanity! People are afraid not just because of loss of life due to some virus but due to uncertainty about future & mainly financial issues!  In this country it’s not just about labours who has to work to earn their daily meal but millions depends up on various services or petty works or say businesses for meeting daily needs. Right from tea stalls which are spread over entire country to paan shops to the guy selling khari biscuits carrying that metal trunk on his head & going to every galli & nukkad to Ola , Uber drivers who has taken loan to start their own earning the list is endless. And there are millions of white collared educated entrepreneurs who aspire to become Amabani or Adani or Azim Premji or Narayan Murthi someday! These people have invested their life time in their individual businesses or professions & closing down for a month is big very big deal for them as just like the watch ticking, the  bank interest doesn’t stops ever is they know! As well even we wave the interest (a hope) or give time limit extension yet what about the damage on revenues which has been hit already & collapse of entire projections of sales ahead? And then the fear is about loss of jobs, as for a normal middle class Indian man (or a woman) more than the life the worst fear is of losing his job as entire life of an individual along with family is tied with his job. And all are that smart now to understand that if there will be impact on revenue projections then it’s bound to affect the jobs at large in every segment!! As lock down will get over in some days but fear in the minds of masses won’t melt so soon & that’s going to affect every segment of business which is understandable!

Best part is people like Bajaj & Tatas’ have been responded immediately assuring no employment cuts but then first these are established big business houses for decades with fat reserves is one thing as not many mid segment entrepreneurs were & are barely managing to reach breakeven & second is not all the times what few of our so called big businessmen speaks 9read as twits), have acted as per their twits; many will understand my reference! Yet definitely it’s a welcome note from senior business fraternity but again it will make employees of small & mid scale business or industries will feel insecure as what about our future if big business houses are announcing in such way means there will be drop in revenues is sure prediction by these biggies! And as I mentioned earlier when we say middle class it’s not just employed people at mid-level but entire spectrum of the society of which income is mostly fix either in the form of salary or the turn-over of their business which is a tight-fit type. Means a small home-kitchen running lady on her own, her capacity to make tiffins is fixed & so are her monthly earnings, even a slightest drop in that can hamper her income but the expenses won’t reduce as well she can’t increase turn over as its home kitchen! One classy example is in my home as I have few of my apartments rented to one big company which operates in rental accommodation for working singles. On fourth day of lock down the in charge operations of that company called me about his concerns for very less occupation & revision of the rent for March & April! Well, I am not dependent of that income (read as totally dependent) so I said; ok we will work out some mid way but what if some retired family’s only earning is rent of the property? There are millions of such families which come under category of Middle Class & whose needs are more than just a meal per day. With keeping full respect for labour class (read as real poor), fact is, in India being a work-man class is sometimes better, as all you have to think is about the today; it’s the middle class who lives every today worrying for tomorrow & day after, & for them, this war won’t be over with just conquering some virus but will be on long way after that! I am not painting some dark picture but we can’t ignore the facts if we want to win any war till final end!

As govt may give meal to every person in this country by announcing some package but what about EMI's of my bike & home instalments? What about school fees of my kids, what about medical expenses of my parents,  what about my monthly grocery bills; when its expenses, list goes on like Hanumanaji's Punch in this country & we all look at you only as Sankatmochan, just mind it PM ji! This is where Hon PM Sir, your team must announce (read as early as possible) something keeping in mind the uncertainty,  mainly in the minds of white collared middle class which usually gets neglected always, is the history of this country! Indeed people will have to curtail every that spending which is not essential & that also is going to matter a lot for the economy for sure. Please take care of us, as we stand with you in this Covid named Lanka Dahan as your Sena, shoulder to shoulder!!
